Re: Nvidia Quadro

For anyone considering getting a GRID K1 card for actual production use I would highly suggest locating a demo first and thoroughly testing it.  Other then actual 3d workloads every single test I have ran usually shows that when running on a host with a K1 card everything will be noticably slower.  Things as simple as scrolling on a web page with pictures on it will be jumpy when offloading to a K1 card while smooth on an indenticle ESXi host without the card.  Playing a small partial window streaming video such as those found on news sites will also use up over 50% of one of the GPU cores, with a K1 card having 4 cores I am unsure how well these cards will scale in the high virtualization ratio typical for VDI deployments.

nVidia support while helpful is not geared for this type of production workload.  Their last recommendation was to forget about the GPU offloading and just pass the card through as "things will perform much better that way with a nVidia driver".

I am still working with vmware about the issue but being that it is a new feature and it is a card from another company the troubleshooting is slow going.
